Rotaract
Club of Phnom Penh is non-government organization which is
not under any political trends, does not discriminate any
religions, and is a non-profit one. Rotaract Club of Phnom
Penh is the first Rotaract Club in Cambodia which was initiated
by RTN. BEN BETONIO, former Rotaract coordinator
and Professional Development Director of Rotaract Club of
Phnom Penh. Currently, RTN. CHAN SOK KHIENG
is the Coordinator of Rotaract Club of Phnom Penh and President
of Rotary Club of Phnom Penh.

Activities
of Rotaract Club of Phnom Penh at Koh Krobey Village, Preak
Thmey Commune, Kean Svay District, Kandal Province. |
Rotaract
members teach children in Koh Krobey village, every Sundays,
English for an hour and a half and general Knowledge for half
an hour. On May 06, 2001, Rotaractors visited Koh Krobey villagers
in order to inform them that they would come to teach children
without payment. |

Every
Sunday morning, the volunteers arrive at Koh Krobey Village
at 8:00. Before learning English, students stand in rows to
do fifteen-minute doing physical exercise. There have been
sixty-five Koh Krobey children registered. They want to study
the English language, and the club has added more teaching
programs such as morality, health care, art, and culture.
Some of them are orphans and lack warmth, knowledge, love
and advice. |
Students
are divided into 5 classes, class "A" and class
"B", according to their ages.
- in class "A", there are 20 students whose ages
from 15 to 18 years old.
- in class "B", there are 26 students whose ages
from 13 to 15 years old.
- in class "C", there are 28 students whose ages
from 13 to 15 years old.
- in class "1A", there are 20 students whose ages
from 15 to 18 years old.
- in class "1B", there are 22 students whose ages
from 15 to 18 years old. |

All
Studens in classes study English for one-hour and a half,
and general knowledge, health care, children's rights, origami,
painting, singing and dacing for the next half and hour. Every
country needs to conserve its own culture. Therefore, Rotaract
Club teaches the children about the long and prosperity Khmer
culture. |
Morality
is a main concern for all ages because moral people are sincere,
and stand for other people. Rotaract Club has taught the children
how to obey the older such as grandparents, sisters, brothers,
teachers especially parents. |
Health
is one of the most important factors in life. If a person
is unhealthy, it will affect his/her mental and physical condition.
Rotaractors teach the children how to take care of their health,
such as cleaning their body, hair, and fingernails. The kids
should also do physical exercises every morning to make their
body strong. |

Ten
basic rights of children are:
1. The right to have their own name.
2. Both cohabiting children and legal children have the same
rights.
3. The right to access to education including primary education
without fee.
4. The right to receive job traning program with free of charge.
5. The right (for detained adults) to be rehabilitated.
6. The right to be out of capital punishment.
7. The right to protection from being deserted, abused, and
cheated.
8. The right to be protected from being forced to work under
working age or to be illegally employed.
9. The right to have holiday and social entertainment, the
government should provide children with entertainment for
their delight and intelligence.
10. The right to access to social affair services, and the
government should pay special attention to children and adults.

The

The
education in arts is divided into four: painting, origami,
dacing and children's songs. The children learn to paint
pictures and fold paper into figures such as birdm, Li Li
flowers, air plane, .... etc.

The
entertainment program is singing, and there are bout 20 songs
taught to the children: educated songs and songs describing
Cambodia places, including the Angkor Wat Temple. |
The
13, 14 and 15 April are the days of Khmer New Year. On the
13th of April 2002, Rotaract Club of Phnom Penh sponsorship
from some contribute Germans to celebrate the New Year for
the kids. The program was called "Koma Chhnam Thmey"
(New Year Children), meaning every children leaves bad things
behind and grab new knowledge to become a better student,
a better child. Koma Chnam Thmey blessed every child best
wishes for the New Year. The programs inculding Khmer popular
games such as Kham Pekok (eating yam-bean and Bom Teouk Dak
Dorb, bringing water into bottle). At the end, the German
donors handed out books, pens, pencils, and food to children.

On
Sunday, May 09, 2002: Contributor at Origami House had been
visited real rotaract action at Koh krobey village. She had
10 members to join with student's rotaract to play game, show
idea, knowledge about 2 hours. Her game was show about development
idea, lovely, friendship, peace, closely and magnanimity and
she distributed to students such as Origami t-shirt, books,
and pencil. About 11:00am she returned and she has idea to
tell rotaractor, she is greeting and thank warmly for rotaractors
whose volunteer for free education to poor children, here
is good sample for next generation. |
On
June 02, 2002, Rotaract Club of Phnom Penh celebrated the
International Children's Day for the children. It was participated
and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh, TV5 and other
charitable individuals. This celebration is aimed at supporting
and helping children to recognize their own rights. There
were many programs such as quiz contests, games, singing...
etc. At 11:00 Rotary Club handed out to the children the donated
books, pencils, erasers, and theara Powder. |
